What is required of a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Volunteer?

A CASA must work to gather factual information regarding the child’s situation in their case. They must work cooperatively with other organizations involved to find a solution which will serve the child’s best interests.

To be eligible a person must

  • Be at least 21 years old (by swearing-in date).

  • Complete a personal face-to-face interview with the program staff.

  • Undergo a criminal background investigation including fingerprinting.

  • Successfully complete the 40-hour pre-service training program.

  • Commit at least one year to the CASA program as an “Active Volunteer”

  • Earn 12 hours of in-service training credit annually.
